Going for Gold - 03-09-2009

Going for Gold

Having completed the final parts last term, Adam received his Chief Scout's Gold Award certificate while camping at Kent International Jamboree. It's the highest award a Scout can get and is gained by completing 8 of the 9 challenge badges, which is no mean feat!

The award ceremony was held in a huge marquee, with the Scout recipients, parents and Leaders in attendance. A buffet was laid on after the awards ceremony and photos were taken of all the recipients.

Adam however did not wait for the buffet and disappeared right after the photos were taken. Apparently being on camp was more fun than getting an award for him. He says that Scouting for him is about doing activities, campin, meeting people and having fun, not about awards.

While all that is true, Scouting likes to recognise achievement, and all of us at 1st Wilmington would like to congratulate him on this, and also to thank his now departed Scout leaders for all the effort they put into it.
